The goal is to produce a full-length (or longer) album of recorded music in collaboration with several of my favorite musicians. This will be one narrative arc, where different singers are different characters, or viewpoints. Think, "rock opera!” Musical ideas might repeat, or be recycled in different forms, as characters and plot develop.
A description of the process: I typically create many "rough-mixed" versions of songs before they are truly finished. This leaves a trail of song iterations through time, like an aural palimpsest, when these iterations are considered together. Additionally, once a project is complete there is typically a (coffee/wine stained) medium-sized pile of manuscript, notes, charts, drawings, etc. These media - the mp3s and musical sketches I use to get from point A to point B - represent the heart of my practice as research. Reflecting on these remnants is a self-study of my creative process.
